Noise and the damage it can do
If you areexposed to noise, whether at high levels instantaneously or medium to lowlevels with extended exposure, you may be at risk of damage to hearing. Thiscan lead to partial and complete hearing loss or tinnitus, a constant ringingor buzzing-like sound.
Hearing noise in the workplace over 120 decibels, even if only for a second, will likely result in instant damage. Noise can also be harmful at lower levels when exposure is prolonged. For example, at 10 Db there is no risk at any time, so there is no maximum exposure time – this would be the equivalent to rustling leaves.
It’simportant to take note of when noise can become a risk to avoid Noise-InducedHearing Loss (NIHL) as it is not always immediately noticeable, the damage canbe temporary or permanent and may affecting hearing in the future.
